We welcome all students and young researchers to join the Early Career Biostatisticians’ (ECB) Day that will take place on Thursday, 27 August. The aim of the day is to stimulate discussion on how to improve your research abilities and how to come up with biostatistical projects of ongoing or future interest. This day is intended for exchanging personal experience in biostatistical research and for discussing how to deal with the potential pitfalls of the research process. You will certainly benefit from meeting your peers, exchanging your thoughts and ideas so as to enhance the prospective career in making it more promising.

Invited speakers

Three experienced biostatisticians will share career and workplace advice during the ECB day.

Emily Karahalios (The University of Melbourne and Monash University, Australia)
Working as a biostatistician – effectively planning, organizing and monitoring the progress of a project

Stephen Senn (University of Edinburgh, UK)
The seven habits of highly effective statisticians

Havi Murad (Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Hashomer, Israel)
Working in public health versus academia or pharmaceutical industry

Abstract submission

Students and early-career biostatisticians (i.e., with at most 10 years’ experience after their undergraduate degree) are invited to submit an abstract for an oral presentation at the ECB day. Submissions for the ECB day can be made in addition to submissions made for the main conference. The contributed talks should be focused on personal experience relating to the workplace, academia, career or the research process, and not a specific research or methodological question. Please visit https://iscb2020.info/abstract-submission for more information and to submit an abstract.

Early Career Biostatisticians’ Welcome/Student Gathering

Students and early career biostatisticians who register for the ISCB Annual Conference are welcome to join our virtual networking event on Sunday 23 August.
During this event, participants will be allocated to small groups to facilitate introductions and discuss themes related to research culture. In addition to topics suggested by moderators, we encourage participants to bring their own questions on working in academia, industry and research.
